Hong Kong football fans have had it rough in recent years, to say the least – so Sunday night’s famous win over Iran, coupled with China’s exit on home soil, will have tasted even sweeter.
Jorn Andersen’s side set up a semi-final with Japan by beating one of the continent’s giants 1-0 in a huge quarter-final shock at the Asian Games.
China’s men’s national team, on the other hand, saw their medal chances ended by a limp 2-0 defeat at the hands of two-time defending champions South Korea.
Not missing a rare chance to celebrate getting one over on their mainland neighbours, Hong Kong fans took to social media to gloat.
